AFTERNOON

AFTERNOON

Disturbing a curtain
By an open window
A cool breeze
Announces a presence
On a summer afternoon
As sunlight through a lattice slips
Slanting on the wall
And oleanders move their leaves
In acknowledgment
As eddying currents
Flood the room
With presentiments
Of worlds beyond
And old thoughts pass away
In the interfusion
Of things more keenly felt
In the impress of
Another reality.
